ADOS – 2 ASSESSMENT
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), is considered the gold standard for diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is a structured, standardized assessment used by professionals to evaluate communication, social interaction, play, and repetitive behaviours.
The assessment involves a series of carefully designed activities, and the clinician will observe and interact with the individual to assess key behaviours associated with ASD. The process typically takes between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the individual’s age and developmental level. The ADOS-2 is suitable for diagnosing individuals of all ages, children, adolescents, and adults, providing an accurate and comprehensive understanding of ASD.
Comprehensive Autism Assessment
It is designed to evaluate individuals of all ages, from children to adults. This thorough process combines the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition), the gold standard tool for diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with detailed background interviews.
The assessment begins with the ADOS-2, which involves a series of structured, play-based activities tailored to the individual’s age and developmental level. During the ADOS-2, the clinician interacts with the individual in a series of tasks that assess key areas such as communication, social interaction, play skills, and repetitive behaviours. These activities are designed to observe behaviours associated with ASD in a naturalistic setting. The clinician may prompt responses or observe how the individual engages in social situations, responds to social cues, and manages daily life activities, providing critical insights into their behavioural patterns. The ADOS-2 typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the individual’s age and developmental level.
After the ADOS-2, structured interviews are conducted to gather essential background information and developmental history, allowing the clinician to understand the individual’s unique experiences, milestones, and challenges. This helps to build a more comprehensive understanding of the individual’s behavioural patterns and developmental history.
The results from both the ADOS-2 and the interviews are carefully analysed to provide an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis, offering valuable insights for further treatment and support planning.
